Orchard
Life : Outdoor Life
Outdoor
learning at The Orchard is an integral part of the school curriculum
and very much part of its ethos. Set in beautiful grounds
alongside the prep school, The Orchard provides facilities for a
wide range of engaging activities and learning experiences.
The pupils have many opportunities to explore the world around them,
ranging from choice activities in the Foundation Stage such as playing
with pulleys and winches on the patio or caring for newborn chicks,
to Year 1 maths lessons set in the orchard and Year 2 history days
away at Sherborne Castle. Each term, across the age range,
some aspect of the children’s learning is based around outdoor activities:
worm hunting, nature trails, orienteering, team games, natural art
projects, harvest picnics, topical visits, lessons in tents to name
but a few. Throughout the year and in all seasons, Orchard
children enjoy and embrace all aspects of an indoor and outdoor
education.
