Head's Welcome

A special place...

“It’s not success that creates happiness, but happiness that creates success.”

When John and Peggy Booker founded Knighton 60 years ago they created a unique spirit of generosity and support, of care and fun that you can still feel in the classrooms and the dorms, the gardens and playing fields.

This spirit, as distinctive as our famous dungarees, is the essence of Knighton.

Today Knighton’s aims are simple: to develop in all our children a love of learning, the skills and confidence for independent thought and a sense of wonder at the world.

It begins with excellent teaching. In small classes children are supported individually, according to their needs. Talents and gifts are nurtured and developed, allowing every child to fulfil their potential.

Creative arts, a strong tradition of music and performance, sport, riding and a rich variety of extra-curricular activities help to develop self-confidence.

We are one of a tiny number of independent single sex prep schools, for girls. It is undeniable that they blossom, flourish, gain confidence and have the freedom to develop in all areas in this environment.

The atmosphere at Knighton is vibrant and happy. Simple values of honesty, integrity and consideration for others permeate everything we do.

We are fortunate to be in this beautiful corner of Dorset: the idyllic surroundings play an important part in the children’s all-round education.

Please have a look through the recent ISI report, published in January 2012. Even better, discover Knighton for yourself. The pupils, staff and I look forward to showing you our school.
